Wettstein honored with service award

The Long Prairie American Legion Post 12 recently presented Scott “Bubba” Wettstein with the Gerry Beck Community Veterans Service Award for his leadership and unwavering commitment to the community.

“You will be hard-pressed to find anyone in this community who has such a passion for our veterans’ community,” stated American Legion Post 12 Commander Mike Hengemuhle.

“When he’s not talking about the Sons of the American Legion or the Bike and Trike Rally, you can find him having a heart-filled chat with one of our veterans—young or old; that is Bubba.

“His love of service extends to his entire family; however, it began with his father Al who proudly served in the Korean War.  The family is synonymous with the American Legion Post 12—whether it’s raising money for our veterans’ community or hanging posters for our annual chili feed. It’s a family affair and we are honored to have them in our Legion family.”

Wettstein and his wife, Lesa, are long-time residents of Long Prairie, along with their son Derrick and daughter-in-law Amy and daughter Sara, along with grandchildren Amelia, Carter, Kylee, Logan and Tanner.

The Gerry Beck Community Service Award was founded in honor of longtime Long Prairie resident Oliver “Gerry” Beck, whose service to the club and the community set the standard for volunteerism within central Minnesota.
